Jonathan Barofsky, MD, FACS is a Board-Certified ophthalmologist with advanced training in diseases of the retina, vitreous and macula. He provides care for patients with diseases of the retina that includes the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, retinal detachment, retinal vascular diseases, vitreous disorders and uveitis. Dr. Barofsky is affiliated with Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood, Community Medical Center in Toms River, Ocean Medical Center in Brick and Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank.
Prior to going into private practice in 1996, Dr. Barofsky received his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude with honors in biology from Union College in Schenectady, New York. While in college Dr. Barofsky was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society devoted to the promotion of research in science. He completed his medical degree at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. Dr. Barofsky went on to an internship in internal medicine and a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School in Newark. He completed his training with a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Foundation for Retinal Research in New Orleans.

A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Barofsky is also a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has received numerous honors and awards, including the prestigious Irving Shulman, MD Memorial Award for exemplary compassion and medical expertise. Dr. Barofsky has published several journal articles in his field of specialty as well.
